They say that beauty comes from within. And once again, they are right. Because at the end of the day, what we put inside our bodies, shows up on our bodies. For example, if you’re not drinking enough water - your skin is going to look dehydrated. Or, if you’re eating a lot of refined carbs, your hormones will be out of whack and they’ll let you know with hormonal acne around the lower face area. The point being: What you put inside your body, shows up on your body. So rather than just focus on the outside layer, how about we give you some tips that work from the inside out. Age busting ingredient number 1: Hyaluronic acid
This ingredient should be at least vaguely familiar to you. It’s the new buzzword in the anti-ageing world and you’ll easily be able to find it on the ingredients list of any big brand skin product that is targeting the effects of ageing. Why? Well, hyaluronic acid is an ingredient we lose as we age. It’s known for its incredible ability to retain moisture. Applied topically, it plumps and hydrates the skin. When you eat it though, the hyaluronic acid gives your body the building blocks to produce it naturally. Sold? We sure are.

What to eat: Bone broth, leafy greens, starchy fibres and citrus - they all help your body produce hyaluronic acid and prevent its breakdown. DONE!

Everyone knows that vitamin A is considered the gold standard of anti-aging skin care. Why do you think dermatologists prescribe retinol cream (a vitamin A derivative) so confidently to distressed ageing patients? It’s the one topical ingredient that is known to both reverse and prevent the signs of ageing. But can we consume it? Absolutely! Add ample amounts of vitamin A to your diet and you’ll notice smoother more radiant skin within weeks.

What to eat: Leafy greens, sweet potatoes, carrots, butternut squash, pasteurized eggs, grass-fed meats and fish.
Age busting ingredient number 3: Vitamin C

Don’t worry, we had never heard of this one either. But apparently it’s the queen bee of antioxidants. When applied topically, which it often is, it protects the skin from damage by neutralizing free radicals. Those naughty free radicals hey! But when ingested, it activates a longevity system called sirtuin that is said to quite literally slow down the effects of aging. We don’t really understand what that means but COUNT US IN!

You must have known this one was coming. Omega-3 fats have long been synonymous with plump youthful skin. In fact, a lot of people take an Omega-3 fat supplement because they know just how good these healthy fats are for happy healthy skin. When ingested, omega-3 fats help create a strong lipid barrier on skin cells that locks in skin moisture and increases skin hydration over time. Sounds good right?

What to eat: Salmon, mackerel, sardines, and other small cold water fish. You can also load up on flax and chia seeds - simply add these to your smoothies or yoghurt in the morning.
